Northern Lights are privileged to have known, loved and worked with Barry Callaghan.
A true gentleman, Barry was sweet, kind, open and enthusiastic. He was always keen to share his vast knowledge of folk music, history and dance, and gave great advice willingly to those who were fortunate enough to listen.
Barry led the "Mallorca Orchestra" for many years; he played for us at the World Folk Dance Festival, Palma, at the International Eisteddfod in Llangollen, and for our Ceilidhs, Shows, Summer School workshops and get-togethers. He was calm, quiet and cheerful, and created a shining light of warmth and goodwill amongst us.
He observed, respected and made great friends with the children, encouraged them and helped them to develop their understanding of live Folk Music.
One of life's great originals, Barry will always be remembered by each one of us. We are proud to have known him and shared a small part of his life, and we pay tribute to his memory as we continue our Northern Lights adventures.
